Here is a blurb about the trip
The Hillsboro Presbyterian Church’s annual adult mission trip to Rancho 3M Christian Orphanage and School in Guadaloupe, MX occurred the week of January 23 -29 with 25 adults on this year’s team.
This was the 14th adult mission trip to the orphanage. There have been 26 trips overall, with the others being youth mission trips. While most of the adults on the trip are from the Hillsboro Presbyterian Church, people from other churches are always welcome to go. This year 9 members of the team came from other churches.
This year’s team was blessed with the best weather a team from Hillsboro has had for their mission trip. The mostly sunny days had high temperatures in the mid-60s to low 70s with the nightly temperatures dipping to the high 30s. It was perfect weather for working outside.
While time each day is given to interacting with the children and staff of the orphanage, the fundamental way the team seeks to bless those at Rancho 3M is to take on their never ending “To Do” list and see how many projects we can check off for them.
This year’s work projects included over 80 yards of cement being used to complete the following projects: a 50 x 90 ft. outdoor basketball / recess area for the school’s Jr. High; a new floor in an apartment; a 20 x 24 ft. new room addition; a 12 x 18 ft. pad where they will work on vans / cars, two steps; and 3 small pads for various other needs.
Other projects the team completed on the trip included building a wall in a classroom to create office space; mudding and prepping that wall and other walls for painting; installing six ceiling fans in the worship center; re-wiring in the orphanage’s kitchen; installing a shower and vanity in an apartment; tiling the bathroom of the apartment; installing two new windows in the apartment; purchasing and installing a new clothes washer; repairing a van that had broken down so it could be put back into service; installing a light in the paint room; scraping, patching, and painting 3 outside walls; sorting and organizing pile of miscellaneous plumbing parts; insulating a wall in the well house; repairing the ceiling in the girl’s dorm storeroom; and sorting a large collection of donated clothing.
Each year the mission team has a theme for their trip, around which their Bible study is based. This year’s theme was “Fearless” with Deuteronomy 31:6 as the key verse. T-shirts were made with the theme and key Bible verse in Spanish, with T-shirts handed out to all the children and staff at the orphanage.
